UMA ASTRONAUT

London-based UMA's gentle sound is characterised by her wistful acoustic guitar and soft vocals. Born in Catalonia to a British mother trained in performance arts and a Thai father who worked in a hospice in the Bangkok slums, her upbringing of travel and diversity shadows her music. Her new single 'Astronaut' begins with a luscious arrangement of wind instruments which flutter like butterflies. Plucked acoustic guitar and ambient piano sets a rich, yet modest musical foundation. UMA's vocals are sung with refreshing authenticity and tenderness as she asks "Where o where, where does all the time go, do I tiptoe on a tight rope around you, forgive me I'm breathless". 'Astronaut' is both an endearing and humbling piece of music which weaves elements of folk, ambient and soul. UMA's first EP BEL·LI will be out on via indie collective and record label Slow Dance on 16th April. Until then, enjoy the sweet sounds of 'Astronaut'. -Ellie Rose-Davies
